State Pays Settlement to Father After Boxer Dies in Pro Match

Hey folks, here’s a sad story out of Ohio. The state just paid $275,000 to settle with the father of a young boxer who tragically died after his first pro match. Hamzah Al-Jahmi was only 19 when he stepped into the ring on December 19, 2015, for a “Season’s Beatings” fight in Youngstown. He had been training since he was 12 and had a pretty impressive run as an amateur. Unfortunately, that night didn’t go as planned — he was knocked down four times, three times in just the first round. After his last fall, he wasn’t even hit but complained about knee pain, then suddenly lost consciousness. A heartbreaking end to a young fighter’s dream.
