Why Collingwood’s Latest Coach Pick Is Turning Heads

BIG news for Collingwood fans: Matthew Boyd is set to join the Pies as an Assistant Coach for the 2025 season!

Boyd, who boasts an impressive 292-game career with the Western Bulldogs and was a key player in their 2016 premiership win, is coming back to Collingwood after a successful stint with Fremantle. He originally joined the Pies in 2018 as a Development Coach and quickly rose to the role of Assistant Coach, focusing on the defense from 2020. After spending two seasons at Collingwood, Boyd moved to Perth to work with Fremantle’s backline, further honing his coaching skills.

Collingwood’s GM of Football, Brendon Bolton, expressed his enthusiasm about Boyd’s return, highlighting the value of his extensive coaching experience and the success he achieved at Fremantle. Boyd and his family will be rejoining the Club just in time for the pre-season training that kicks off in November, bringing a fresh wave of excitement and expertise to the team.
